Best wings in the area! Great wood fired pizza and the garlic knots are awesome. Monday night is wing night and half price pizzas when there is a full moon -- great deals. They also frequently post specials for their facebook fans too.

Hard to make a coal fired pizza that tastes bad, this was no exception here. A little chinsey on the toppings, especially for how much you're paying per topping.

We are in our third seasonal season with Bocca Lupo. Always fine food served by an effective and pleasant staff. Those of you who have been there prior to last February will be pleased to learn that MARK IS BACK!

Awesome pizza! Best we've had down here since moving from NY. Great atmosphere as well.

Absolutely the best pizza in Port Charlotte / North Port. You don't think much of what a difference coal fire does for a pizza but it reaaaaaaally does the trick here. The wings too. Great wait staff and the bartenders are always very nice.

This was our first time at Boca Lupo and the food was very good. We had rice balls, garlic knots and individual pizzas. Mine was a ricotta and sausage with a glass of sangria. Definitely would come back. Dave, our server, was perfect. Give them a try.

Food was ok--however I will not go back nor will I recommend. With so many similar places were one can choose to spend their hard earned money I want to go where my business is appreciated. It is not appreciated here. Attitude is you are lucky to be here. Well I think not. This kind of attitude starts at the top and works it way down. Unfortunate, but the place is average at best. FYI go to Oregano' Pizzeria great food and welcoming staff!!

We found Bocca Lupo via Yelp and were very happy with the choice. The pizza was good: quality ingredients, generous size, lots of toppings... nothing crazy-amazing or very 'wood fired' or really smokey about the pizza to make it a 5 out of 5 ( I know it's 'coal fired' not wood :-) , but the two things that really stood out to us were the wings & the service. The wait staff was very attentive, checked in just the right amount and even the manager swung by and seemed legitimately to care how things were (not just a formula check in with a customer). They seemed to have plenty of help on hand and even be training new pizza guys. The wings were huge (we got the boneless) and we really enjoyed the garlic wings with real bits of garlic on top (not just flavoring). It was a good experience all around. Large dining areas, clean, and was easy to get seated fast even during the busy season.

Was there Saturday evening. We had a pepperoni pizza. Thought it was good but tasted very salty to us. I would guess it's the pepperoni they use. Service was just OK but passable. Acoustics could be better. Overall we would go back again. Oops, we were greeted warmly with smiles from all and thanked for our business on our way out.

Although Lupo means wolf they will not allow dogs at their outdoor seating. We were told in Port Charlotte that it was the shopping center rules. I called the management of the center and the woman there told me that they don't have any rules against having dogs on their prpoerty. So when they opened in North Port we thought we'd try them again with our dogs because they have outdoor seating. We were told that dogs are not allowed again. My conclusion is that they don't like dogs so we will not be spending our money with them.

I am just not a fan at all. I LOVE coal fired pizza. There is a wonderful taste, texture and aroma that come from a pizza cooked in a coal-fired, brick oven. I wish Bocca Luppo had one of those ovens so that everyone coming to this establishment could experience the sensations. Even though I never smelled any of the signs of a coal-fired oven, I ordered a pepperoni pizza and hot chicken wings due to how hungry I was. Against my better judgement, I convinced myself that they had a ventilation system that sucked out all of the smells. I really don't know why they would want that, but I had to tell myself something. Our wings arrived and we dug in. The flavor was GOOD; but the uncooked chicken was not. I spit it out and put the wings to the side. We didn't see our server until the pizza came and decided to do without the wings at this point. I looked at the pizza and was surprised to see how uniform the coloring was; I took a slice and also noticed the uniformity on the bottom. I have been to MANY coal-fired pizzerias, and I have never seen such a clean pizza. There is always some charring and blackening on a coal-fired pizza. I tried the pizza and at least it didn't taste bad. We ate half the pizza and left. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. There were too many red flags and inconsistencies for me to want to return. Perhaps it was a bad night for them. Perhaps they have a special oven; but from what I could see from where I sat I think the name should state "gas-fired" instead of "coal-fired."

We went to the new Bocca Lupo in North Port, FL and it was DELICIOUS! We had pepperoni pizza and wings. The wings were HUGE and tasty. We loved the atmosphere as well. We highly recommend.

While visiting my parents from Connecticut, we visited Bocca Lupo twice on consecutive days. Tamiami Trail has every restaurant known, but we went to Bocca Lupo twice! Excellent wait staff, coal ovens so the crust was thin and crispy, great beers on tap. We started with a Big Salad (antipasto). You can get a Small Big Salad and the menu points out in a very cheeky way "We get the irony." Delicious! We had a New Jersey Tomato Pie. Cheese on the bottom, great sauce and basil. It didn't need any toppings! The next day, for a family get together, we ate again. Garlic knots, more delicious salad. Some family members had calzones. We had another great pie. Look, being from New England, I'm a bit of a "pizza snob," but I found a little slice of heaven in Port Charollotte, FL! P.S. The name means Wolf's Mouth and when there is a full moon, the pizzas are half price! How cool is that?

  • Angela M.

They have a really awesome deal where on the full moon they give half off of the 14" and 18" pizzas. I went here with my husband and my parents. It was very busy due to the special but we were expecting the wait. The pizza was great. The only complaint that we had was that the garlic knots were incredibly hard and soaked in olive oil. The manager came right over after we mentioned this to our waitress and he took it off the bill. Overall, great food and great customer service!!

My family and I have gone to Bocca Lupo 3 times now for pizza, all three times on their 1/2 off full moon days. The first time we ordered a cheese and a pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni tasted odd and I did not enjoy it. The pepperoni grease gave the pizza an off taste of strong cheddar cheese. The cheese pizza was just ok and worth 7.50$. The second time we ordered a large cheese pizza and 'NJ style' pizza. The NJ style pizza had large pieces of garlic in it which I did not enjoy. I preferred their cheese over their NJ style. Third time we arrived around 4pm and the seater wanted to sit us in the bar room which was very noisy. There were a lot of tables open in the dining section so we asked to be reseated. We ordered two cheese pizzas. Service was ok each time. Every pizza we ordered had a limp crust (not crisp) and was very dry and hard to chew. The taste of the cheese pizza is a little bland. I never get the taste of oregano in their sauce. For a restaurant that touts a coal fired oven the crust was the most disappointing part of the pizza which is unfortunate. The only reason we return is for the full moon 1/2 price large cheese pizza for 7.50$. I would not pay full price though.

  • Cheryl H.

The pizza was great ( especially because it was half price on a full moon day) but it was so noisy we couldn't carry on a conversation. The cause was partly noisy customers but the decor didn't lend itself to diminishing the noise. Also no benches to sit on while waiting for tables to open up -not very accommodating for elderly or disabled patrons.

Tossed between a 2-3 star. Then I realized - they can not be compared to Anthony's Coal Fired so I gave the food a 3. The service was fair but the waitress continued to correct my ordering "errors". I didn't what I ordered then that was corrected. Overall the pizza is good.

Anytime I have friends or family come down from New England/New York (where they can be very critical about their pizza), I always make it a point to go to Boca Lupa. They've always been consistently great. Very friendly, food is always excellent, and my friends and family always want to come back when they come down for a visit.

I've tried pizza at several places in the area and this is the best so far. Coming from Chicago my standards are pretty high so many places have disappointed me down here. The cheese was nice and gooey, the crust was crunchy but not overcooked, and it wasn't too greasy. I would definitely recommend this place.

    (4)
  • Rob M.

Go there quite a bit. Pizza is fantastic as is the "Donato's Style" calamari and the wings. The only criticism is with the consistency of the pizza. Although never bad, sometimes it's a little overcooked or to thin. Good happy hour and beer selection.

This is a nice addition to the area! The food is consistently above average. The service, in the lounge, was exception. The takeout service is very efficient. Pizza dough is top notch. The sauce is great, not too sweet not tomato forward. The amount of toppings and cheese are well balanced. I would not order the sliders. They were too generic for the price. As another reviewer stated, you must order the garlic dough knots. They are fantastic. They have a promotion on every full moon for half price pizza. Do not be surprised when you call up on full moon and they are not offering the pizza you want for half price. This was not enough to ruin my review though.

The garlic knots are awesome here. If you come here try them.

Was going to Subway next door and decided to divert to this place and so glad I did! Can only speak of their wings at this point but they were fabulous! I got the hot and they had just the right amount of kick for me. Heard some raves while there about the pizza and can't wait to come back for that.

The garlic knots are excellent, and the restaurant itself is surprisingly nice on the inside. Unfortunately, the pizza was not that great. The pepperonis are the small greasy kind, and the pizza crust was insubstantial. Considering the options available in this area, I'd go back, but I've had much better.

Best pizza I've had in Florida. My one son said it was awesome. Toppings were generous on the pie. Our sodas were topped off several times. Dessert was also delicious. We had NY style cheese cake, ice cream truffle and zeppoles. No more looking for a good pizza place, we found it.

I'm a pizza snob. True, I'm a snob about most things, but I'm *particularly* snobbish about pizza. I come by my snobbery honestly: My mom was a cook in an Italian restaurant when I was a kid, and for the past 20 years I've lived and worked in New York City, which has the best pizza in the world. (Mi spiace, Italia.) And while the west coast of Florida has many fine qualities, I think I can safely say, on behalf of my fellow snobs, that a plethora of dining options has never been among them. Bocca Lupo and her sister restaurant, Donato's, have changed all that. The family behind these two restaurants have raised the standard. The congenial owners are always on hand, and they've created a singularly warm and attractive and convivial setting. And most importantly, the coal-fired pizza is as good as it gets: perfect crust, generous toppings, perfect sauce. If only they'd open an outpost in New York!

Great pizza. Crust has just the right amount of char. Try the sausage sliders - wonderful.

Primo - wish it was our neighborhood place back in Connecticut. We've been here twice; had sausage pizza with olives (It's thin crust).

  • Gregg H.

It was so noisy in the restaurant that we had to yell to talk to each other, and just 2 of us at our table! Moved outside where it was much quieter. They didn't write the order down when we ordered, so they forgot our salad. And the pizza was the saltiest I have ever had, and very greasy. Heart attack, here I come. I don't know that I will be back.

Best pizza in Port Charlotte! Plus great service and awesome happy hour specials. While you're there try the garlic knots and the wings too! Yum! Best deal is the family special for $25 which includes a large one-topping pizza, 10 wings and your choice of a large salad or appetizer.

Pizza It was greasy, cheese doesn't taste fresh... Just not a good pizza! Check the molding on the walls, thick with dirt... They just haven't figured it out! We live here round and find ourselves where can we go for really good pizza? :(

  • Dan F.

Haven't been back for some time. The pizza was much better than we remembered it. It was truly like a hand tossed New York style pizza with a nice thin chewy crust and ample stringy tasty mozzarella cheese. The pepperoni was very greasy and a bit more salty than I like. If I had just ordered a cheese pie id have given it 5 stars. We had the calamari appetizer and it was tender, tasty and perfectly fried. We won't hesitate to return.

Been here a few times with my husband and my ladies lunch group. It's good for casual get together or night out. Hake never thought much of the service but always let It slide. Just found out my friend tried to set up her daughters birthday here and wanted to secure seating for 15 young adults. Seems like a reasonable thing to do--not to overwhelm the restaurant and not to have 15 guests waiting around. Well apparently the owner did not see it the same way-WILL NOT take reservations period. If you don't like it go elsewhere--owner actually accused her of vulgar language from a previous call which if you knew her is hoot! A better business would be more accommodating to its patrons. Recommendation: Spend your money where it's appreciated DO NOT EAT HERE.

Tonight we tried the Donatos Calamari with Gorgonzola and hot peppers, delicious but portion was very small, the pizza was great? Our waitress was a sweety, great food, great service. We had a nice evening. But we always do when we are together. Why 4 stars? Because not only the edge of the pizza was empty, but almost to the middle. If I am going to put carbs in my body, it better be with something good on top, and each slice I left almost a half from the edge, what a waste, some had some tomato sauce not even cheese. There was also hardly any sausage on it, more mushrooms. I didn't complain because this was the first time this ever happened. I guess I was stunned or I simply enjoyed the company more lol. Not sure what the reason was. This IS still the best pizza in the near by area, so we will go back, because I don't think this will happen again. Must have been the blue moon, lol Once in a blue moon ;)

Best Pizza I have had on this coast! So good, the only complaint is that they don't deliver! We order pizza to go almost every week, and their wings are exceptionally good! If you haven't been, its a must try!

Have been going there since moving down here. We go early and get the same thing every time. the family special a large cheese pizza, Greek salad, spicy wings. but they took wings off and replaced with garlic knots : ( but still very good. Cheese has a buttery taste that I haven't found on pizza before. When we have company down they all want to go back there they all love it and so do we

This is about the north port bocca. When they opened I would have given them probably 5 stars. But the food and attitude has gone down since then. We usually call our pizza in. The last few times our crust has been eithet burnt or not done enough. We got onions on our pizza that were at least an inch wide and as long and totally raw. The garlic rolls tasted and looked like they were a day old. Went up to window to get pizza and saw one sitting on the rack. Asked if it was mine ... was told by window person no... and she walked off to chat with coworkers... when she came back it turns out it was our pizza....kids need to be retrained.... last person who took my order was totally rude....what's going on there these days??????I have names but won't mention them.... they get one more try and then I go back to port charlotte. ..... I'm hoping to update this review next time.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
